The Cover: Active inflammatory bowel disease is characterized by migration of neutrophils across epithelial intercellular junctions. This event is associated with differential re-distribution of tight junction proteins away from the junction. ZO-1 shown here in green is present in tight junctions of epithelial cells not adjacent to transmigrating neutrophils (red) whereas occludin in such regions is internalized. (see page 2001).
